Identify unknown song with your iPhone or iPad using SoundHound

Not being able to remember the name of a song you hear can be intensely irritating. SoundHound is an iPhone and iPad app that should be able to eliminate these frustrating occasions by quickly identifying sounds for you. Like other similar apps, SoundHound can be held up to a speaker playing the track you want to identify, but other options are also available.

The app also enables you to sing or hum a tune and it will attempt to identify it - while this is less accurate that identification of an actual song that is playing, it is an interesting and impressive feature.

To help you to find out more about an artist you have identified, SoundHound provides links to artist pages and MP3 purchases in iTunes. There are also links to in-app YouTube videos, band discographies and tour dates.

You can also perform voice activated searched and the app can also be used to display song lyrics. Both iPhone and iPad version are hugely impressive, but the iPad edition of the app includes an enhanced interface to take advantage of the larger screen and includes a scrolling ticker of recent song discoveries.

Verdict:

Definitely an app to impress your friends, SoundHound is startlingly fast and accurate and doesn't require the purchase of credits.

Unreal Engine 4.7.2.0

Free Full Commercial Software

Unreal Engine is Epic Games' game engine, a powerful suite of tools for developing anything from basic 2D games to professional RPGs, first person shooters and whatever else you like.

Wide standards support - DirectX, OpenGL, JavaScript/ WebGL - means your projects can be targeted to almost any platform: consoles, iOS, Android, Windows, OS X, Linux, HTML5 browsers and more.

There's a vast amount to learn, of course, and that's even before you start building your game. But there's plenty of documentation, tutorials, demos and sample projects to point you in the right direction.

The package is now entirely free, too - no annoying limitations, nag screens or anything else. Epic now only requires that you pay a 5% royalty after the first $3,000 of revenue per product per quarter. And even then, you "pay no royalty for film projects, contracting and consulting projects such as architecture, simulation and visualization."
