Create ad-hoc online meetings of up to 250 people - for free

Join.me is a free and easy-to-use screen-sharing tool that allows you to create instant online meetings and presentations of up to 250 people, with the absolute minimum of hassle.

The process starts when you download and run the join.me application. There's no installer, no complex options to worry about - it just pops up a toolbar at the top of your screen, and displays a multi-digit code, like "801-625-337".

Now all you have to do is get that code to everyone you'd like at the meeting: email is fine. Then your recipients must go to https://join.me, type your code into the "join" box, click the green button - and that's it, they'll be connected to your join.me session. (As long as they have Flash Player 10, and are running Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, Firefox 3, Chrome 5 or Safari 5, anyway.)

Everyone who joins can see your screen, so you can immediately use this opportunity to present some ideas to them.

A chat tool helps out, allowing you to talk to one particular meeting attendee, or everyone at once.

A remote control option lets a participant take control of your PC, useful for troubleshooting or perhaps if you just want to share the presentation duties with someone else.

And you can send files to your participants, too, for example giving them a copy of your work when then meeting is over.

Powerful though join.me is, the Pro version has even more features. Upgrade and you'll get a permanent link that represents your virtual meeting room, for instance. A Scheduler allows you to set up meetings and send out invitations. The Meeting Lock gives you more control over which participants can see your screen, and there are more user management tools, so for example you can add others to your account, set them up as presenters and manage their access. The Pro version costs from $29 a month, with a 14-day trial available, and you can read more at https://join.me.

Verdict:

join.me provides an exceptionally easy way to get together with friends or colleagues online

Spotlight: Free Full Software

Giveaway: WinISO Standard 6.1.0

Free Full Commercial Software

WinISO is a very comprehensive tool which provides everything you need to create, edit and convert disc images.

If you've an image file already, for instance (ISO, CUE/ BIN, NRG, MDF, CCD, IMG and DVD formats are supported) then you can open it in a click or two, browse the image contents, and extract the files you need with a quick drag and drop.

It's just as easy to create new ISO9660, UDF, even HFS+ images. Just choose the option you need, then either manually build up your preferred file and folder structure; drag and drop your files and folders from Explorer onto the program; or create an image directly from a CD, DVD or Blu-ray disc.

Of course you can edit images, too. Is an ISO file too large for your needs, say? Open it up, locate and remove any surplus files to free up a little space.

WinISO program has full support for reading and creating bootable image files. A simple conversion tool makes it easy to convert disc images into the format you need. And the program can even mount ISO files as Explorer files, or burn images to disc when you're ready to save them.

Please note, this trial version of WinISO Standard will not save files greater than 500MB in size.

Giveaway: on Wednesday, we're giving you the full current version of WinISO Standard 6 worth $29.95. The download link here will take you to Downloadcrew Giveaway.
