Foxit Reader 9.5.0
View, edit and annotate PDF files

Foxit Reader is the latest generation of Foxit Software's lightweight and speedy PDF reader.

Performance is great, with the program loading documents much faster than Adobe Reader. And it makes fewer demands on your system resources, too, consuming a minimal 10.6 MB of hard drive space (Adobe Reader requires more than 100MB), and very little RAM when loaded.

Recent improvements to Foxit Reader have been taken from the now defunct Pro Pack. You're able to highlight or strike out text, for instance, or insert text comments of your own. There are tools to draw shapes, arrows and lines, add callouts or text boxes. You can fill out, print and even save completed PDF forms, and a new spell-checker will highlight spelling errors and offer suggested alternatives for anything that you type.

Other features include a Text Viewer, which at a click removes complicated formatting to display a plain Notepad-type view of your document's text. A Text Converter similarly saves a complete PDF document as a simple text file. It's easy to embed movies and audio files into your PDF documents. And Foxit Reader's Safe Mode has been enhanced to offer even more protection from malicious PDF files.

And document collaboration features allow you to save your PDF files online and work on them with others, via almost any computer with a web browser. This is a commercial service, but a generous 3 month trial period means you've plenty of time to try it out. Check the site for more.

What's new and improved in v9.5.0 (see entire changelog for more info)?

- Epona DMSforLegal Integration. Use Reader to directly open/check out PDF files from Epona DMSforLegal and after making changes save/check them in to Epona DMSforLegal.
- Viewing Article in PDF. Follow pre-defined PDF article/ article box to allow users to skim through the PDF with articles that arrange text content in multiple columns and/or cross multiple pages like in a print newspaper or magazine, focusing on a specific article and ignoring the rest.
- Smooth Line Art. Provide an option to smooth lines when viewing a PDF that include CAD drawings, which also makes it faster to open the PDF.
- Add pen and touch support to Reader for Microsoft Surface Pro.

Verdict:

It's always been a great PDF viewer, but the form filling facility alone justifies the download, but that's just the start - go grab a copy of this excellent tool immediately

Good but becoming ever more bloated

Posted by: Poxy Pig, 16 November 2014 00:22

I've been using Foxit for years and always found it excellent. The problem is that every new version has new features I don't need and can't reject making it bigger and slower than the last.
Updating never seems to go smoothly either. I've had to sort out messed-up installs several times.
Version 7 won't work on my XP system so I've had to revert to 6.2.3, which takes up at least 92MB. The updater alone is 11MB and the Foxit executable 37MB so I really can't imagine where your 10.6MB claim comes from!
It is possible to get rid of the terrible ribbon interface, fortunately.

You have all missed the point! Yes Editors included !!!!

Foxit PDF is NOW both a PDF reader and a PDF printer/creator. Certainly justification for a slight name change. That is why it has grown so much in size. In fact its the only FREE combined PDF reader and PDF creator/printer that I know, still comparatively tiny in size and very good too. Grab it whilst its still free! Forget the old Foxit Reader. Its obselete now with this new combined reader/printer/creator version.

S*it can happen!

So what did happen to this then stabe/fast/lightweight alternative to Adobe Reader? I used to erase Adobe from every machine I was working on and install this instead.

Since it zapped to v6 it seems supa heavy (installed program is 80MB against half less for v5), dead slow (hanging). What with the sloppy Microsoft Office ribbon design?

If you miss the good old days, do like me, stick to v5.4.5.0124 (the ultimate non professional v5 build prior to v6) uncheck additional installs and disable automatic updates. It perfectly does the job. Good enough!
V5 is missing from Foxit products repository's, but you could easily grab it from any other website such as FileHippo.

4 stars to the older versions. 2 stars since V6.

I have to agree with "The Crew's" Mike Williams on his rating & recommendation of this program. I recently downloaded, installed, & tried it out because of the recommendation. So this is the 1st time ever trying any version of it & from my time of using it, it's never caused problem 1 & does everything so seamlessly, without a hiccup on my computer's resources. I'm glad I got it & I even set it to my default reader & got rid of the resource hog, Adobe Reader. Thanks for the great recommendation Mike!!!

Windows 10 May 2019 Update ISO (build 1903)

Free Full Commercial Software

This is the latest version of Windows May 2019 Update. it's a media creation tool that can be used to upgrade an existing installation of Windows or create installation media for another PC. Just make your choice after launching the tool and it'll do the rest.

What was new in Windows 10, when it was released? The OS brought back the Start Menu, though with a twist: live tiles keep you up-to-date with the latest news while also providing an easy way to launch apps. (Don't worry if you prefer the Start Screen, it's still there and you can boot into it if you prefer.)

Apps now work much more like regular desktop programs. They have minimise, maximise, restore and close buttons, and can be resized (to a degree) and organised however you like.

If you've still lost track of a program in the mass of open windows, a new Task Spaces feature can help. Click its taskbar button and you'll see thumbnails for everything running now, a little like OS X's Mission Control - just click something to switch to it.

Better still, Task Spaces also supports virtual desktops. Add extra desktops as required and it'll display thumbnails of each one, making it easy to identify whatever you're after and switch to it.

There's also smarter snapping, new customisation options, and even a bunch of experimental additions to the command prompt.

May 2019 Update brings a whole host of new features for Windows 10. See the Microsoft Blog for more information.

The Windows 10 ISO will give you build 1903 which is the May 2019 Update.
